Developing Dialogue Writing

DIALOGUE WRITING
Q.5 B) Convert the extract into dialogue form. (4 marks.)
Steps of developing the dialogue.
1.      Read the passage carefully.
2.      Jot down the characters from the passage. ( their number/ appearance/nature etc.)
3.      Scene: Where the action and conversation took place.
4.      Find out the areas where actual conversation exists.
5.      Make a distinction between conversation and action or mood.
6.      Write dialogue of particular character  in front of his/her name  with : sign . e.g. Mr.Kaplan :
7.      Write mood and action of the characters in brackets.
8.      Rest will used as instructions.
Examples of dialogue writing .
Scene :   8 th Class of Mather Junior school.
Characters :  1.  Jacqueline - Naughty girl, vilify as  teacher’s nightmare .
                          2. Mr.Kaplan-  Young ,handsome and innovative teacher.
  (Mr.Kaplan entered in the class room .leaning against chalk board ,his hands stuffed in his jeans he was looking handsome in his dressing.)
Kaplan :  (greeting student) Good morning. (pushing away from the board and walking through the aisles between the desk)  My name is Kaplan , and we all about to embark on a journey.
 Jacqueline : (fills flutter in her stomach ) It is really excitement.
                            (Kaplan returns to his desk and jumps)
Kaplan :  Listen to me, this is not about school ,it is learning about joy ,it can give, if you let it.
                    (pointing the various students) it is about you ,you and you.
             When his graceful  finger settles  Jacqueline.
Jacqueline : ( with excitement) ya sir, its about me ?
Kaplan : ( confidently ) certainly ,its  about you also.
Kaplan : (In whispering sound )
History is  mystery  and we are all part of that mystery.
(long silence prevailed in the classroom.)
Jacqueline : (confused) what do you mean ,sir.
Kaplan : ( with sort of vigor) we could not be here today if our ancestors had not fought for their beliefs, for their independence . We certainly would not be free.
Jacqueline : (admiringly) you are quite right sir. We must remember them it is our duty . I personally feel it sir.
2)Dialogue writing.
Scene : Oliver’ house.
Characters:
1)      Oliver – Orlando’s elder brother, cunning fellow.
2)      Charles- the Champion and professional wrestler of Duke Fredrick’s court.
Charles came to meet Oliver to warn his brother not to fight with him.
 Scene:  Oliver’s house where Orlando is also living with him.
Charles :  ( proudly manner) Being a professional wrestler I must always fight to win in order to keep my reputation .
Oliver: But, nobody doubts that.
Charles: Anyone who fights to me runs the risk of being badly hurt. Please warn your brother and persuade him change his mind.
Oliver: ( thinking -a good chance to get rid of Orlando) Not to worry .Charles, I will warn Orlando ,but he has quite daring and will be determined to fight.
Charles: (resentfully) well, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Oliver : Orlando is bad and ungrateful and he will deserves whatever punishment you give him.
Charles:  That sounds very harsh.
Oliver :  I would rather you broke his neck than his finger. You have permission to do what you like with Orlando.
Charles :  (confidently) I will do my best to kill Orlando , if he comes to fight tomorrow. I’ll give himhis payment.
Oliver: I will be very pleased if you do so.
Charles: If, he walks away after I have finished with him. I will never wrestle again. See you in the court tomorrow.

       ii) By Rai: Nearest railway station.
       iii) By Air : Nearest airport.

        Hotels, resorts, cottages, private bungalows etc.

             The list of places where you can visit.
     Historical buildings, monuments, zoo, museums, waterfalls, garden, temples etc.

       Specialty of the place:  Language ,foods, garments, weather, articles.etc.
*5) Best time to visit.
                     Monsoon, winter, summer.
                Conclusion- Invite others to visit the place.

NEWS WRITING
      
  Headlines are given in the questions . Students have to develop news from that headline. Generally the news of accident, sports, strike , rain, celebrating, shooting, looting and  blast ask to write.                                           
Parts of the news
1.       The Headline - Write the given headline in capital letters. It should be in Present Tense. Avoid articles, prepositions, helping verbs and conjunctions.
2.      Dateline- Includes
I)Name of reporter or news agency: e.g. By our Reporter/By our local Reporter/By PTI
ii) Date: e.g. August, 2
iii)Name of city/town: e.g. Mumbai.
3.      The Lead    /Intro: The first paragraph of news is known as lead because it leads reader to the second paragraph of news. It should be of three /four lines or within 30 words.
This paragraph provides answers to the questions like who, how, where ,when, why and what. These questions are asked in respect of the event or incident happened.
4.       Continuing paragraph.; It gives  the detail description of the event.The sequence of description is most important, important ,less important ,least important.

12 KILLED IN BUS ACCIDENT
         Solapur: 15th December.
          Near about 12 persons killed and 13 injured in a strange accident when  a bus struck to huge tree at 4 a.m. on Pune-Solapur highway near Degaon due to break problem of the bus.
           The super –express bus coming from Chiplun and bound to Solapur came near Degaon at 4 a.m. .It suddenly struck to a huge tree . The accident was very horrible .The front part of the bus was completely damaged. Many people could not understand as they were in sleep. The driver of the bus who escaped unhurt told to have lost of control as the break failed. The bus was carrying 6 passengers .Out of 12 persons 9 were died on the spot and 3 died in the hospital. The injured were admitted in the civil hospital. The government declared Rs. 100000/- each for families of the dead. The police arrived with ambulance after an hour.



                                                                                                                                     




HEAVI RAINS DISTURBED THE LIFE IN WESTERN MAHARASHTRA

Mumbai, July ,15.
      Heavy torrential rains for 3 rd day with strong winds have caused havoc in Mumbai and Konkan area of western part of Maharashtra taking 5 lives and bringing all activity to stand still.
     In last 24 hours this area received a total rainfall of 10 mm. Roads and rail traffic were badly affected in entire area .A few districts like Alibag reported disruption of telephone lines. Most of the main roads were completely flooded. In many areas the electric poles have fallen down. Mumbai faced a blackout due to the power  cut. Several low laying areas were flooded rendering many hutments and pavements dwellers homeless. The municipal authorities promised to clear the drainage . the local M.L.A. visited the scen and promised financial help to affected people. The forecast for tomorrow indicates that  the rains would abate.
